Underway from Mongstad to Rotterdam, the Thun Gothenburg met some stormy weather during sunset. Waves of this size are remarkable slowing down the travel speed of smaller ships like this.

Green water

When so-called “green water” is coming over the forecastle deck, then the ship’s speed needs to be reduced to prevent the water to damage the structure or equipment on deck. In this picture, the overcoming waves are on the edge, a little bit higher and it will be “green”, meaning that there is only water without spray or air in it.
